Ceramic PCB vs FR4: Which One Should You Choose?

分享到
Ceramic PCBs and FR4 PCBs are widely used in electronic products, but their material properties and suitable applications differ significantly.

FR4 is a glass-reinforced epoxy laminate commonly used in conventional printed circuit boards. It provides good electrical insulation, cost efficiency, and manufacturing flexibility, making it suitable for consumer electronics, communication equipment, control systems, and general electronic products.

Ceramic PCBs, on the other hand, use materials such as alumina (Al₂O₃), aluminum nitride (AlN), or silicon nitride (Si₃N₄). Compared with FR4, ceramic substrates generally provide superior thermal conductivity, high-temperature stability, electrical insulation, and dimensional stability.

For applications involving high power density, high operating temperatures, or demanding thermal management, ceramic substrates can provide significant performance advantages. FR4 remains an economical and versatile choice for applications where extreme thermal performance is not required.

The appropriate substrate should therefore be selected according to thermal management, electrical performance, mechanical requirements, operating conditions, and overall system cost.
